I went on the date with Mandi. It was ok, which is probably good, since it wasn't bad? I have my share of bad experiences on dates that make good stories. This does not qualify.

We met at a bar and it was pretty obvious there wasn't chemistry between us, mutually. She was bigger than I expected, not like overweight, but taller, more stocky. I generally prefer more petite women. However, she was very nice. It slightly frustrated me that we had spent so much time texting before we met up, cause in my mind that's mostly wasted time, and I mentioned during the date that all our easy conversation questions had been used up. But c'est la vie.

I only remember her asking me two things on the date, what kind of work did I do, and did I have any brothers and sisters, but as I said, we had already covered the easy conversation topics. I rescued awkward silences with questions towards her, as I don't talk about myself in general unless someone asks.

Mandi is super big into sports and is a rabid Huskers fan. Rabid Huskers fans annoy me, hence my use of the term "rabid". I support them, they are the local team, but I don't support any extremes. She says stuff like, "Those Iowa fans are so arrogant, thinking they're so good and better than us just because we had a bad year," yet she is not self-aware enough to realize that the rabid Iowa fans say the same damn thing about the Huskers fans. There are rabid fans everywhere. They annoy me, cause you know, in her case, if she'd been born ten miles east, she'd probably vehemently say the same drivel about the Huskers instead. I kept my opinion on that to myself.

She also informed me she does not find The Office funny, she has only seen one Marvel movie (Avengers Infinity War) and she fell asleep during it, she had no interest in Game of Thrones, she did not like Star Wars and had only seen the prequels and her favorite character was Jar Jar Binks. There seems to be a trend where people think because I am something of a "computer guy" (whatever the fuck that means), that I'm into Star Wars. I appreciate the original trilogy, I like the universe when you ignore clones and midichlorians, not a fan of the prequels or sequels, though I did like Rogue One. I am much more of a Mass Effect fan, if I had billions of dollars I'd buy the rights to that franchise and try to put it on track with the right people producing more books and games. Marvel movies, I've seen them all, none are bad, some are just ok, some are great, Thor Ragnarok is one of my favorite movies of all time. Game of Thrones I was the early fan in the late 90s telling people in high school about this awesome book and jackasses making fun of me thinking I was a nerd. The first book is amazing, but later books go on a downward trend, due to George R. R. Martin spinning his wheels, while at least the show keeps progressing forward. And who doesn't like The Office? I guess maybe if you never worked in an Office you wouldn't find it as funny, cause you didn't know that one weirdo or boss that says things out of line, etc. Amusing anecdote is that my boss for a number of years was named Michael Scott ____. Where Scott was his middle name, but close enough, and yeah, at times he fit the profile for saying things that weren't kosher in corporate land, often tone deaf remarks.

Anyway, obviously, she and I did not click. Like zero interests in common, though she was nice, and now I can say I've been on a date in a recent time, at least for a while. She also really really enjoyed talking about coaching her teenage girl softball team, to which I hope my boredom did not show but it might have. Not sure how good I am at concealing emotions and thoughts.

It was all right, not a waste of time, now I know she is not the woman for me, and thankfully she feels the same ways towards me, so there is no awkwardness.
